After a sometimes contentious process, reports are the Cowboys and DeMarcus Lawrence could be close to a deal.
UPDATE: Todd Archer throws a little cold water on the “getting close to a contract” rumor, but it still sounds like there is some movement happening.
Described by Stephen Jones at the league meetings as being at an impasse in negotiations, the team and the agent for DeMarcus Lawrence are talking again about a long-term deal and there’s been some back and forth, but a contract is not yet close, according to a source.

Lawrence was given the franchise tag for the second straight offseason recently, and that’s not something that he was very pleased about. In playing on the tag last year, Lawrence gambled on himself and he is ready to cash in.
It’s seemed like the Cowboys weren’t willing to meet the exact cash value that Lawrence wanted, but it’s still only April. All that being said, it seems like things are heating up as a report on Friday surfaced that the two sides are “getting close” to a new deal.

The neighborhood of $20M per year is certainly where Tank Lawrence is going to live when it’s all said and done, it’s a big pill to swallow but he’s an extremely talented player. The Cowboys seem ready to do it and things could get interesting before the weekend fully arrives.
