The Cowboys are looking to lock two of their biggest offensive stars.
Lawrence was the first of many Cowboys that need notes of promises from the team. Dak Prescott, Amari Cooper, Ezekiel Elliott, and Byron Jones are just the tip of the iceberg as far as pending extensions, such is the price (no pun intended) of having great, young players.
While we hadn’t heard anything about progress being made with any of these four, we did learn something interesting on Tuesday. Stephen Jones said on 105.3 The Fan that contract talks are “active” with both Prescott and Cooper.
Stephen Jones just said on @1053thefan that the Cowboys have “active” discussions ongoing regarding Dak Prescott & Amari Cooper

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson got his new deal on Tuesday morning and that will certainly have an impact on the signal-caller for America’s Team. Cooper being listed is a welcome sigh of relief given the value he showed over the second half of last season, he’s playing on his fifth-year option at the moment and an extension could actually lower his cap hit for this season.
Noticeably absent from this list is Ezekiel Elliott. While Zeke did show up to the start of the offseason program Stephen didn’t mention him as far as “active” negotiations. He did though note that the Cowboys seem intent on lightening Zeke’s workload via the draft, that’s good news.
Cowboys VP Stephen Jones made it clear that they’re trying to get better at RB behind Ezekiel Elliott. “You look at your situation and you see how much we rely on Zeke, in terms of the number of touches he gets…and what that would do to your team if you didn’t have Zeke.”

We haven’t discussed Jaylon Smith’s name a lot when talking about future contracts, but many have expressed their concern. Stephen Jones also took an opportunity to provide some clarity on theSmith front. You can relax. He isn’t going anywhere.
“He’ll be under a tender after this year.”
Stephen Jones tells us Jaylon Smith with not be an unrestricted free agent after this season. Update your websites.
